French Priest Resigns After Affair with Married Woman

Rev. Gerson Peres of the Parish Saint-Sauveur in Brignoles, France, has resigned after admitting to having had an inappropriate relationship with a married woman, Bfmtv.com reported (September 3). He belongs to the diocese of Fréjus-Toulon. On Sunday, the vicar general, Rev. Lionel Dalle, read a message of Coadjutor Bishop François Touvet: "Father Gerson left the parish of Brignoles on Friday, August 23. He submitted his resignation to me, which I accepted. He was living in flagrant contradiction to his commitments, especially that of celibacy." Bishop Touvet expressed his disapproval: "I condemn Father Gerson's attitude and I count on everyone to face this ordeal with courage, in a spirit of unity and communion." Source
