The Hautes-Pyrénées department in the south of France has been on flood alert since Friday evening due to heavy rains.
At the Marian Sanctuary of Lourdes, the floods reached their peak on Saturday morning. Water flowed through the sanctuary, overflowing the parapet and flooding the grotto. It was evacuated around 6 am.
A security perimeter was set up to prevent pilgrims and visitors from getting too close.
Locals report on social media that there are no casualties, that the water is receding, but of course leaving a mess. Source
